CECI N’EST PAS UN FOSSILE
Description
CECI N’EST PAS UN FOSSILE is a journey into contemporary lithic design, emphasizing the connection between knowledge and practice, craftsmanship and advanced technology. The event offers an innovative perspective through the "workshop of the future," where computational design, digital fabrication, and artisanal tradition converge. The shape of the "workshop" is inspired by fossil shells and the spiral geometry of ammonites, symbolizing an immersion into a lithic world rich in discoveries, while the spiral represents a bridge between the past and the future, uniting millions of years of history with the innovations of the near future. The interesting analogy between Magritte's "pipe" and the fossil in the exhibition highlights the profound meaning hidden behind images and representations. The protagonists of the show will be young talents from schools of Architecture, Design, Engineering, and Fine Arts Academies, collaborating with companies in the stone industry in an immersive experience, allowing the public to actively participate in the design process through emerging technologies such as 3D printing. The prototypes will represent five lines of research: stone powders, weight vs lightness, intelligent modularity, self-supporting structures, and formal virtuosity. In the first part of the event, teachers and researchers will delve into the represented themes; in the second part, the focus will be on the projects, which will be presented through the words of their designers.
