The Business Network for Authentic Natural Stone (PNA) has commissioned the Polytechnic University of Turin to carry out the first sectoral study on the Sustainability of Natural Stones "MONDO." This study focuses on the analysis of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) related to the sector of transformed Natural Stones in Italy, regardless of the geographical origin of the raw material - quarry blocks.

At the conclusion of the 2024 project, we can affirm that the exercise of extending the analysis of previous years (LCA Natural Stone "ITALY") to Natural Stone "WORLD" has proven to be extremely interesting. In summary, the excellent environmental performance of "100% Made In Italy" products is confirmed, and simultaneously it is noted that the environmental impact of transporting materials extracted abroad and processed in our country - although slightly higher - remains of the same magnitude.

Considering all the materials analyzed, the average impact on climate change of 1 m2 of a 2 cm thick slab is equivalent to 12.5 kg CO2 eq/m2.
